Border's Biggest Chumps

The Border Patrol has successfully cleared out the thousands of people camped out illegally under a bridge in Del Rio, TX. Aerial photographs show the land is totally empty of people, tents, and the detritus of an illegal encampment. After the embarrassment of images showing Border Patrol agents herding black illegal aliens like an old slavery roundup, the Biden administration did a remarkably quick job of fixing the mess.

Where did all those people go? There were an estimated 30,000 people, most of them from Haiti, who were crossing the border illegally from Mexico into Del Rio hoping to seek asylum when they reached U.S. soil. How can they possibly process thousands of people seeking asylum so quickly when the usual time frame is measured in months and years, not hours and days.

The unfortunate answer is that the government did what the progressive liberals wanted them to do all along. Most of the people were simply let into the country with a promise to show up to immigration court at some far distant future date. Altogether, 12,400 Haitians were simply released into the country and sent on their merry ways. Another 8,000 voluntarily returned to the Mexican side of the border. About 2,000 were deported to Haiti. And about 5,000 are in some sort of processing still with the CBP.

Congratulations to the 12,400 Haitians who successfully forced their way into the U.S. The old saying about safety in numbers proves true again. But what about the people who volunteered to go back to Mexico or the unlucky ones who were caught early and sent on a one way flight back to Haiti? I bet they feel like the biggest chumps in the world. If they had stayed together with the rest of the crowd for a few more days, they too would now be in the promised land.

Now that Del Rio is emptied of illegal aliens, I wonder how long it will stay that way? People all over the world will see this news. When will be the next mass storming of the border and occupation of that underpass. Everybody can see that if enough pressure is applied to this progressive president, he will just let almost anybody in rather than face the tough job of actually controlling the border. This is only the beginning. There are no real plans to protect American borders because the liberals want to let as many poor and desperate people in as possible so we can give them free food and shelter and secure their votes in the future.

Calling Out Biden's Racist Border Policy

By now most of the world has seen the horror that is American southern border policy and the roundup of Haitian illegal aliens. The images are searing in their depiction of white border patrol agents on horseback chasing after and nabbing black people as they are running for their lives. The pictures wouldn't look out of place in a scene from "Roots" with southern white plantation owners chasing after runaway slaves.

Yet despite these obviously racist actions, Joe Biden has somehow managed to escape any real blame for the chaos. Instead the blame has been deflected to the Homeland Security chief Alejandro Mayorkas, who dutifully stated that the pictures "horrified" him. Whatever happened to the buck stops here? Biden is the president and in charge of our border security. The liberal press is giving him a free pass as usual. They are hunting for anybody else, ANYBODY, to blame for this mess.

As usual they figured out that former President Trump makes for a very convenient boogeyman as half the population will readily believe this deflection. It's true that Trump was very tough in his dealings with illegal aliens, but he hasn't been president for nine months.

Biden is the one in charge now and if he chooses to continue Trump's policies, then they are now Biden's policies. But the press still write as if Trump made him do this, like they actually believed Biden was duty bound to abandon Afghanistan because of Trump's agreement with the Taliban.

One of the few people who called out Biden on his racism, ironically, is NAACP President Derrick Johnson, "The humanitarian crisis happening under this administration on the southern border disgustingly mirrors some of the darkest moments in America's history." Right on. If Trump was still president, you can bet the press would be hanging this on his neck 24/7. CNN and MSNBC would be showing these pictures and videos hourly until the next crisis comes along that they can blame Trump on.

As the POTUS, Biden is ultimately responsible for all government policies being carried out, especially since his predecessor has been out of office for nearly a year. But Biden, this racist, xenophobic president, gets away with it because of the fawning liberal press. No wonder nobody trusts the media anymore.

Peter Liang Screwed By Asian Judge

Things were looking hopeful for former NYPD officer Peter Liang. One of the jurors in his trial, Michael Vargas, was found to harbor strong anti-police feelings that were not picked up during jury selection. During the selection, Mr. Vargas denied any close family members had been involved in criminal activity. As it turned out, his father served a seven year sentence for murder. Since he was estranged from his father who has since died, he didn't consider him to be a close family member. It was also discovered that Vargas had a Facebook page with multiple postings ranting against police brutality and abuse of power. Vargas also testified that in a previous jury selection, he mentioned his father's crimes and was not chosen for that trial but he failed to mention it for Mr. Lian's jury selection.

Despite all these obvious disqualifications to participate as an impartial juror, New York State Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun somehow found that Mr. Liang received a fair trial in his conviction for manslaughter of Akai Gurley. Judge Chun stated that Mr. Vargas was "not at the top level of intelligence" and so could not have premeditated a scheme to get on Mr. Liang's trial.

What? So the judge is saying this juror is too dumb to connive his way into a trial? This is despite his acumen at using social media to propogate his anti-police viewpoints? The judge feels this guy is so unintelligent he couldn't possibly harm Mr. Liang's chances for a fair trial but his well planned Facebook postings don't matter at all? If Mr. Vargas really is so stupid, isn't that alone worth kicking him off the juror and declare a mistrial? How much does Mr. Vargas even understand of the trial if he is really as dull as the judge seems to be implying?

I suspect that Judge Chun is being unduly harsh to Mr. Liang because he is caught in a no win situation. If he overturned the conviction and declared a mistrial, he could potential start race riots in the streets. In addition, many would think that the judge was soft on the defendant because they are both of Asian nationalities. Though it obviously would not be true, it is all too easy for people to come to that racist conclusion. Ultimately it was easier for the judge to let the conviction stand and perhaps go more lenient on the sentencing next week. So Officer Liang essentially got screwed because he came before an Asian judge.

As for the black people who cheered the judge's ruling, well they just need a scapegoat for all the unarmed black people that were killed by white police officers who were never even charged with a crime. However I can't help but notice they don't remember the outrage they felt when black defendants were convicted by white jurors who harbored openly racist attitudes. If the same thing happened to another defendant of color, well that's just too bad. They are going down even if it is obvious to everybody that a juror was less than impartial. As long as somebody is convicted it doesn't matter how much injustice was served.

That's why I feel that organizations like #AsiansForBlackLives is so naive. Run by mostly young, liberal college educated Asian Americans, they can't fathom that their love and respect of black people will never be reciprocated. Black people look at them merely as curiosities, not as brothers in arms. These people need to go get meaningful jobs and discover how the real world operates.

Only White Police Officers Get Away With Murder

As if we need any more evidence that white police officers alone get away with shooting and killing unarmed people of color. In South Carolina, former police officer Justin Craven has just been given three years of probation and no jail time for killing 68 year old African-American Ernest Satterwhite.

Officer Craven was following Mr. Satterwhite, who was driving while intoxicated, weaving on the road and hitting parked cars. When the driver finally stopped in his own driveway, according to the police dashcam, Craven rushed to the drivers side door and pointed his gun through the window. Mr. Satterwhite's arm can be seen pushing the officer away. That's when Craven shot multiple times into the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No weapons were found in the car. His blood alcohol level was 0.15.

When prosecutors tried to charge him with voluntary manslaughter with a sentence of 2 to 30 years, the grand jury, despite the video evidence, refused to indict him. They did charge him with a lesser felony that carried a sentence of 10 years. Eventually the prosecutor settled for a misdemeanor misconduct in office charge that carries no jail time.

So this officer willfully ran up to the driver's side window of the victim and fired point blank into the car killing the driver. Contrast that with New York Police Officer Peter Liang who was convicted of manslaughter for ACCIDENTALLY firing his gun into a darkened stairwell. The bullet somehow ricocheted over multiple surfaces and angles, striking Akai Gurley in the heart TWO floors below. True Officer Liang did not render aid immediately upon finding his mistake. But neither did Officer Craven.

Is it any wonder Asians all over the country were protesting what they justifiably felt was the punitive justice heaped upon Officer Liang but not on any other police officers accused of killing a minority? Though it's wrong to wish Officer Liang had gotten away with murder, like all the other policemen, neither is it right that he was the only one convicted while officers such as Darren Wilson and Daniel Pantaleo were not even indicted by a grand jury. There can be no post-racial society in America until there is post-racial justice in America.

White Racism Is Apparently Universal

A devastating op-ed in the Sunday New York Times. Bangladeshi-British writer Zia Haider Rahman laments his inability to integrate fully into British society. Even though he holds two British passports (he goes into why he holds two of them), doesn't speak Bengali, and has been honored in European writers' societies, he is still considered a foreigner.

When Mr. Rahman was invited to be on a panel for the Man Booker Prize, the other two judges were noted for their credentials as artists. Mr. Rahman was listed as "a Bangladeshi banker turned novelist," despite the fact that he is of British citizenry. The nationalities of the other judges were not listed.

He meets a sommelier in Amsterdam of Egyptian nationality. The sommelier confides to him that though he was born in the Netherlands and speaks Dutch fluently, he has never been accepted as Dutch by the white people.

Mr. Rahman ends with a plea, "After all, how much more can I integrate? What more is it you want from us? To be white? To be you?" The feeling of alienation and rejection by people of color is apparently equally strong on both sides of the Atlantic.

Best Places To Live (For White People)

You know those rankings that magazines put out periodically about the best places to live? Have you ever noticed that most of the time, they only apply to white people? For instance, Money Magazine puts out an annual list of best cities to live in the U.S. Invariably they are located in a small to medium sized town where the vast majority of the people are white. Sure they can boast of great outdoor recreational activities and low crime rates, but where are you going to go when you're hankering for some great soup dumplings or even trying to find some cuts of five layer pork meat in the supermarket? Will any Asian who moves there be just another token, appreciated at the job but never get any invites to after work barbecues or Superbowl parties?

Now Mercer, a human resources consulting company, has devised a list of the cities in the world with the best quality of life. Not surprisingly, virtually every single city in the top 25 are dominated by white Western culture. The top ten cities on the list are: Vienna, Zurich, Auckland, Munich, Vancouver, Dusseldorf, Frankfort, Geneva, Copenhagen, and Sydney. Vancouver is probably the most international of the cities in the top ten. All the others are dominated by a white, sometimes xenophobic culture with little tolerance for minorities.

This European-centric list of the world's best cities would probably be contradicted by citizens of some of the most modern metropolises in Asia. How could Singapore not be in the top 25 list of best places to live? Or Hong Kong? Tokyo? Sure some of the biggest cities in Asia are under totalitarian rule, but if you keep your nose clean and not stray from the law, as the vast majority of people do, they are wonderful places to reside, with low crime and cosmopolitan culture.

It's obvious that the audience for these types of lists are the white, middle to upper class society that reads these magazines and newspapers. They bear little resemblance to the actual quality of cities that can be found outside of Northern Europe and their former colonies.

White Privilege In A Rolls Royce Wraith

The March 2016 issue of Car and Driver has a story that highlights the white privilege that Caucasians take for granted. It involves two of their staff writers as they travel through the Southeast U.S. in a $390,000 Rolls Royce Wraith. The prank is that they were going to pretend they lost their wallets and ID's and would use only the Rolls Royce as evidence of their good names in order to get free stuff.

As they drove through the country, they discovered that people did in fact trust the car to vouch for their characters. They wrote that, "Perfect strangers were invariably kind and charitable." The writers were able to receive free meals at restaurants, free gas, free coffee at Starbucks, and even a free hotel room in New Orleans. Some people said they would have offered their services free anyway since that was the hospitable thing to do.

Somehow I'm skeptical that people are that generous just because somebody drives up to their place of business in an expensive car. As I read this story, I kept thinking that they are getting away with this because the writers are white. Imagine if two black men were driving around in a Rolls Royce and tried to scam restaurants and hotels for free services pretending they had lost their wallets and ID's. You know what would have happened? Instead of being offered things gratis, I suspect people would probably have called the police first. How else would two black guys be driving around in a Rolls without any ID? But if two white people do it, it's just a harmless prank.

I have similar experience with what Car and Driver pulled off but from a minority's point of view. But the results were entirely different. I experienced the racism that can still be so prevalent around the country. This is not the burning cross racism as Chris Rock would say, but sorority racism. In other words, there is no "Whites Only" sign being displayed anywhere but the effects were there.

After high school, a good buddy of mine, who is white, and I took a summer road trip together. We traveled all over the Ozark mountains, enjoying the splendid views and lakes. At the end of the first day, we needed to stop to get a motel room. Since he was driving, I was the one who got out of the car to see if we could get a room. Each time I went inside, I was told that there were no more vacancies available even though there was no signs that said so. After about three tries, I told my friend that I was feeling tired and if he could go in to get a room. After five minutes he came out and tossed me the room key.

I never mentioned how much this hurt me. He seemed too oblivious to notice the ease in which he got a room and I couldn't. To him, it was probably just a coincidence. But that is just part of the white privilege that Caucasians assume is granted to everybody else. I don't know if people in that part of the country still act that way thirty years later, but it would be interesting if Car and Driver would do the same prank with two minority drivers instead. Let's see how many free Starbucks they can get before being thrown in the slammer by some present day Roscoe P. Coltrane.

Racist Apple Watch Bands

Apple was showing off some new watch bands for its new must have devices in a fashion show in Milan, Italy over the weekend. The bands sported bold colors like red, blue, yellow and various pale pinkish hues described as skin tones.

Unless Apple thinks that having ten different shades of pink is what people are asking for, I'd say those skin tone watch bands are not designed for people of color. Really Apple? You don't think any brown people will want to wear an Apple Watch? All those pinkish watch bands will look a bit ridiculous on 80% of the world's population who are not light skinned. Frankly, even most white people are not that pale, especially on the arms. Unless that person has not seen daylight for months, Caucasians treasure their golden tanned complexion. The only watch band displayed that might be of suitable color for anybody is the dark blue one. It would look great on a Na'vi from the movie Avatar.

Medical Schools Also Discriminate Against Asians Americans

Asian American parents have believed for years that Ivy League universities discriminate against their kids for admissions. Black children can score 230 points less than whites on the SAT to gain admission to an Ivy League and Hispanic kids can get by with 185 points less. Meanwhile an AA child needs an SAT score 50 points higher to get into the same school. Consequently there is a thriving after school enrichment program in Los Angeles, specifically the San Gabriel Valley where most of the AA's cluster.

But if AA parents think they can relax once their children make it into an Ivy League, they better think again. The discrimination against AA students continues even into graduate school, or in this case, medical school.

With all the Asian doctors that we see nowadays, all the Indians, Chinese, Koreans, Vietnamese, etc., one would think that medical schools accepted their students based purely on academics. But that is apparently not so. The Association of American Medical Colleges put together this table ranking how likely different ethnicities are accepted into medical school based on the MCAT scores and GPA's. As you can clearly see, an AA premed student with a median MCAT of 27-29 stands only a 22.5% chance of being accepted into med school. A white student has a one in three likelihood of getting in. But if the student is black, he has a greater than 80% chance of being accepted into medical school.

If the AA student makes only the lowest MCAT scores of 24-26, it will be almost impossible for him to get into med school, just a 7.7% chance. But a black person with the same score still has a greater than even chance of being accepted, 65.8%. At the other end of the academic spectrum, an Asian American premed with the top MCAT scores of 30-32 will still only have a nearly even chance of going to medical school, just 63.1%. A black student with the same score is nearly guaranteed to make it, with a 94.6% probability of getting in. In other words, the lowest scoring black student has a better chance of getting into medical school than the highest scoring Asian American student.

Is is any wonder AA parents are worried sick about getting their offspring into good schools? We have to spend thousands of dollars and countless hours in extracurricular studies just to make sure our kids are at least on the same playing field as other kids for college admissions. Meanwhile black and hispanic students can hang out, play video games, and watch movies all they want without worrying about getting into college. Even if they don't do as well academically, the schools are so desperate to achieve "diversity" that they will accept nearly any of them as long as they know how to read and write complete sentences.

Asian Americans have to learn to handle this ugly discrimination early and often. No matter how hard we try to do well, we get penalized by the elitist and racist powers that control our academic futures. In fact, the more we achieve, the greater the discrimination. It appears that we will always be discriminated against here in so called color blind, melting pot America.

Pants Up! Don't Loot!

Black Lives Matter. That's the new mantra following the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner at the hands of police officers in Ferguson, MO and New York, respectively. Yes, black lives do matter. As do all lives well lived. Yet I can't help feeling that the only people who don't think black lives matter at all are the African American victims themselves. In both cases, the victims died because they were in the process of committing an illegal act.

In Mr. Brown's case, it is well established that he committed strong armed robbery stealing cigars at a convenience store minutes before being confronted by Officer Darren Wilson. He then further inflamed the situation by reaching into the police car and assaulting a peace officer while trying to reach for his gun. So no sympathy from many of us who feels he deserved what he got. As for the whole Hands Up Don't Shoot? We now know after the grand jury testimony that that was a lie perpetrated by many unreliable "witnesses." Michael Brown never even tried to give himself up to Officer Wilson but instead attempted to charge and attack him before he was fatally shot.

Mr. Garner was likewise committing a crime when he was brought down by the police. In this case he was trying to sell illegal cigarettes on the streets when he was questioned by officers. He then ran away instead of facing questioning and arrest. His resistance eventually led to him being forcefully subdued. If he had given up peacefully, knowing that he was committing a crime, his own death would have been prevented. Again no tears here.

When the grand juries in both cases heard all the evidence, they rightfully declared the officers innocent. This led to weeks of rioting in Ferguson and marches in New York. Eventually some crazy person felt the need to assassinate two innocent NYPD officers, ironically neither of whom were white, as some sort of political statement.

Again, if black people really believed their lives are important and worth living, then they should be the ones to commit to lead better lives and not follow a life of crime. Blindly taking the advice of racist flamethrowers like Al Sharpton is not going to help them. Blaming the government, white people, schools, police, or any other easy scapegoats is not going to help them. Looting their neighborhood businesses just because they feel wronged is not going to help them.

We already know what can aid the poor and downtrodden become better citizens. This is where the model minority established by Asian Americans can help. I reject the many so called Asian American organizations that claim being labeled a model minority is a form of divisiveness used by a white majority to further suppress black people. Organizations for years have complained that there are no good role models for black people, particularly young black males. That's why President Obama established a group like My Brother's Keeper.

But based on centuries of experience with the integration of immigrants into American society, we already know what needs to be done to help people establish themselves as good citizens. And it does not involve any more government intervention. Stay in school. Study hard. Get good grades. Go to college. Get a good job. Get married and stay married. Don't have kids too early or too often. Don't have children outside of marriage. Follow the law. Obey the police. Asian Americans ARE the model minorities and can be the role models that these lost black males need. But instead of stating the obvious, AA groups confoundedly reject our success as citizens as a wedge between minorities. Echoing the words of Al Sharpton tells you all you need to know about the political bent of these organizations.

In conclusion, I too believe that black lives matter. But marching in the streets, rioting, and looting are not going to make any long term impact. African Americans need to do a little soul searching before they can start making a difference in their own lives. Blasting rap music out of their cars and playing midnight basketball isn't going to help. If they need to find good role models to emulate, just examine the quiet Asian student studying his ass off every night. Instead of derision, he should be the one held up as an example.

I Am Darren Wilson

I am for the rule of law. If a criminal is out there creating mischief and mayhem, I wholeheartedly support any means necessary to stop him. I believe that's what former Ferguson, MO police officer Darren Wilson was attempting to do the fateful day he shot Michael Brown. Consequently, I am supporting Officer Wilson and whatever actions he felt was necessary to stop Mr. Brown.

By now, almost everybody has seen the security video inside the convenience store that Mr. Brown robbed about thirty minutes before his shooting. He was stealing cigarillos from the place when a store employee attempted to stop him. As the picture clearly shows, that took an enormous act of courage. Mr. Brown is 6 foot 4 inches tall and weighs nearly 300 pounds. He is essentially an NFL football player with no job and a bad attitude. He tosses the employee around like a rag doll. The fact that the mass media still refer to him as an unarmed teenager totally misrepresents the situation.

If Mr. Brown's robbery wasn't enough to send him to jail for a long time, he decided he was going to pick a fight with a policeman inside his own patrol car after he was told by Officer Wilson to stop walking in the middle of the street. He even attempted to reach for the officer's gun while assaulting him. All of this is without dispute. Yet the news organizations and liberal bleeding hearts think that Officer Wilson should somehow have let him off easy because he was "unarmed". Mr. Brown has already shown himself to be gravely dangerous to society and bringing him down was probably the best thing to happen to Ferguson's crime rate in a long time. These kinds of events don't just happen overnight. I'm sure Mr. Brown's robbery was not his first, but luckily for Ferguson, it was his last.

The St. Louis grand jury heard all this evidence and came to the conclusion that Officer Wilson acted within the law and decided not to indict him. Yet the liberals say the process is broken and justice was not given. It is especially appalling to me that so many Asian Americans are going along with this fractured narrative. What the heck are they thinking? I don't support any of these Asian American associations that have placed their lot with the likes of the NAACP and clowns like Al Sharpton. These Asian community "leaders" think that support of any minority cause is worthy of their time and energy. I bet none of these people has ever run a business and been robbed or beaten by some hooligans who think they can do as they please. As far as I'm concerned, if somebody commits a serious crime, they deserve whatever punishment they get. This is justice. Not another business will ever again be terrorized by Michael Brown and the world is a better place for it.

I'm sorry to read that Officer Wilson felt compelled to resign from the police force in Ferguson. But I suppose that was inevitable. He seemed like a policeman who did what he thought was the right and legal thing to do in the middle of being attacked by an opponent who was almost 100 pounds bigger than him. I hope he and his new wife are able to settle down and find a new job soon in a community that is more grateful for good police work than Ferguson.

If any of these anarchists are done torching their own town, they may find that there are going to be a lot fewer businesses opening up in Ferguson from now on. And since the townspeople feel that the white police force is discriminating against the predominately black population, maybe they'll feel happier if the police don't come running the next time they call 911 when another black person is robbing, stealing, assaulting, raping, or committing any other felonies against them. Why should the police risk their lives for people who only turn around and accuse them of being racists. The citizens of Ferguson will have nobody to blame but themselves.

Why Asians Will Always Be Foreigners

My son hates his last name. He is always complaining about other kids in school teasing him about it. He has already asked me when he can change his name. I told him once he turns eighteen he can do whatever he wants. Until then, he is going to have the same last name as me, end of discussion.

Unfortunately, my son's complaints painfully reminds me of my experiences in school with other kids. Whenever I am asked my name, I inevitably have to say it twice, along with spelling it out so people can at least grasp how it's supposed to be pronounced. Over the years I've learned to live with this ritual. But inevitably some white American will think he's clever and make an unfunny pun with my name, as if that he was the first one to think of it. Sorry sir, but at least a thousand people have already told me the same lame joke already so forgive me if I don't laugh.

Asian names are notoriously difficult for English speaking people to comprehend. "Why is Nguyen pronounced as 'Win'?" We once had two Chinese coworkers at my workplace. Their names were spelled "He" and "She". Though they look nothing alike, different age, different height, people were always getting them mixed up. Would Americans have mixed up two white people named "Johnson" and "Johnston"? Somehow Asian names seem to be the perfect set up for bad puns by white people. Think of how many jokes you have heard in the media regarding names like "Wong" or "Chin". And don't even get me started on names that sound like English slang for genitalia. "Long Duk Dong" anybody? Yes I do know a real Chinese person with the last name of Dong so don't think that was a purely fictional name they put into the movie "Sixteen Candles".

I didn't realize how much our family's last name bothered us until one day I heard my father complaining about it. He was irritated by the rudeness of total strangers whom he just met who feel they can make a joke out of our name. While people may just be trying to lighten the mood by saying a joke, I would never think of joking about somebody named "Dick" or having fun with a black person named "White" or a white person named "Black". But with Asian names people don't seem to have the same restraint.

There have been many times while growing up that I wished I could have an easily pronounceable and spelled last name. Why couldn't my name have been Wilson? Or Smith? Jones, Brown, Williams will all do. These names imply AMERICAN. There is no stupid pun that people will think to bring up. They suggest a long glorious history of living in the United States. Nobody would ask me to repeat my name again because they didn't think they heard it right the first time.

So all I can tell you my son is that I too had to live through a lifelong dread of having to say my name to strangers, whether at school or at work. Just expect some wise guy will try to make a joke about it. Laugh if you're feeling generous. Ignore it and move on if you don't. Try not to make a big fuss about it because the joker usually isn't saying it out of malevolence. And once you are of legal age, I will understand if you want to change your surname to "Anderson". But I think by then you will have learned to be proud of your name and your heritage like I have and pass it along to your children. Then you can give them the same advice I'm giving you, "You can do whatever you want when you turn 18."

Madison Bumgarner's Racist Move

Madison Bumgarner is
a. The San Francisco Giant's ace starting pitcher
b. A binge drinking alcoholic
c. A racist?

Anybody who was watching the first game of the National League Championship Series in St. Louis last weekend will surely remember the seventh inning. At a crucial juncture of the game, St. Louis Cardinal Kolten Wong hit a short ball into the infield. Bumgarner then received the ball from the first baseman and raced down Wong to first base to tag him out. But instead of the usual tap with his glove, Madbum practically body checked Wong and pushed him off his running path. It looked more like a football tackle than a baseball tag. The move was so flagrant that the Cardinals's coach asked for a review by the umpires, who inexplicably confirmed the out despite the interference with the base runner.

I can't help but wonder if Madbum pulled this stunt because he is a huge hulking white guy who thought he could get away with pushing around a smaller Asian American player. Bumgarner is 6 foot 5 inches tall and weighs 235 pounds according to his bio on MLB. By comparison Wong is a relatively diminutive 5' 9" and 185 lb. Would Bumgarner have contemplated pulling the same stunt against somebody like the Cardinals's first baseman Matt Adams, who is 6' 3" and 260 lb? I bet he wouldn't dare. Adams would probably have body checked him right back and sent him sprawling back to the pitcher's mound before allowing somebody as uncouth as Bumgarner, not to mention dishonest, to push him around like that.

But Wong didn't do himself any favors by meekly accepting the ump's bad call. In the usual Asian American fashion, he quietly accepted their verdict without so much as a protest, thereby confirming to everybody that he too thought he was out instead of being illegally shoved aside. Again I bet Matt Adams wouldn't have been so agreeable when somebody so obviously attacks you like that during play.

Of course Kolten was the hero the next day in Game 2 of the NLCS when he hit the game winning home run in the top of the 9th inning. Maybe it's just karma that helped him deliver that powerful swing to tie the series. Go Kolten!

Is Being Racist The Worst Crime In America?

Poor Donald Sterling. The owner of the LA Clippers was banned for life from being involved in the NBA after being recorded making racist comments to his girlfriend. Now he is trying to sue the league to retain ownership of his team. Unfortunately for him, it appears that no major law firm is willing to attach itself to this controversy.

Has being a racist in America become so toxic that not even a billionaire with nearly endless resources can find legal representation? While being a racist itself is not a crime, apparently having been stigmatized as one is worse than almost any other atrocity. None of the law firms wanted to be tainted with defending a racist as it might upset their African American and corporate clients.

For instance, murderers almost always get some sort of legal assistance in the courts, unless the accused refuses any. OJ Simpson had A-list celebrity lawyers on his side of the court bench for years during his trial. Music producer Phil Specter also didn't have any trouble finding an attorney to defend him in his murder trial. Seems like none of these lawyers were afraid of how these cases might have affected their reputations with white clients or musicians.

Confessed drug use is also not a crime so heinous that people can lose their jobs. Both Presidents Clinton and Obama have confessed to smoking marijuana during their youths yet they were elected to the highest public office in the country. Most infamously, former Washington, D.C. mayor Marion Barry was convicted of using crack cocaine yet is still working in public office on the Washington City Council.

Child molestation, like racism, is also highly frowned upon in this country. However that didn't prevent one of the most famous child molesters of all time, Roman Polanski, from winning an Academy Award for Best Director in a vote by his directing peers.

What about infidelity? Everybody's doing it so it can't be that bad, can it?

Even 9/11 terrorist suspects can find lawyers to defend them in court.

Being a racist in America is so bad that Shelly Sterling would rather have people think her husband is demented than to consider him a bigot.

So yes, being outed as a racist in this country is probably the worst thing that can befall an individual. Unless it is being called a right wing conservative. Then you don't even get a voice in public at all.

Infidelity Vs. Racism. Lesser Of Two Evils?

The Other Woman
The revelation that L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling made racist remarks to his mistress V. Stiviano has rightfully brought a huge uproar of indignation among basketball players and fans alike. It is almost unfathomable that the owner of a business whose star employees are nearly all African Americans could harbor such hatred of black people.

Yet while all these denunciations are occurring over Mr. Sterling's racist rants, I find it disheartening that his other moral failing isn't even being discussed, much less condemned--his affair with his mistress V. Stiviano. Mr. Sterling has been married to Mrs. Rochelle Sterling for over fifty years. Yet there are multiple pictures of the mistress all over the internet of Mr. Sterling cavorting with his mistress in their court side seats at Clippers games.

Why hasn't anybody ever condemned this immoral behavior before? Has infidelity become so commonplace that nobody wants to be accused of throwing stones at glass houses? You can almost take it for granted that practically all the NBA players have had affairs while on the road and away from their spouses (yes Kobe Bryant I'm looking at you). Probably most of the men in high power positions like NBA team owners also have had indiscretions with their girlfriends too. Is that why nobody has been willing to speak up about Mr. Sterling's blatant acts of shamelessness at every Clippers game for the whole world to see?

Adultery was once an act of unbearable indecency. It is after all one of the Ten Commandments as set by God. History didn't used to treat infidelity with such blithe disregard. Nathaniel Hawthorne's classic book "The Scarlet Letter" demonstrated the ugly consequences of committing an affair in early America. All the way up to the 1980's, having a mistress on the side was so reprehensible that it could bring down the careers of aspiring presidential politicians (I'm talking about you Gary Hart).

But in the last twenty years, with its freewheeling attitudes towards behavior, where anything goes as long as nobody gets hurt, infidelity has become not only accepted, but practically expected of people in certain positions of power. President Clinton probably set the tone when he literally lied to the nation about his affair with Monica Lewinsky and nothing happened to his presidency. He is practically a saint in the Democratic Party now despite all that baggage. Movie stars are in the news regularly for their sexual indiscretions yet the multimillion dollar contracts and fan adorations continue. The America of the 1960's could only dream of being as carefree as the 2010's. This is truly the era where one is allowed to live and let live, without judgement.

Unless of course you are accused of being a racist. Or use the N word (unless you're black). One can't even talk about the inner city without being accused of racism if the speaker is of the wrong color. Racism has truly become the untouchable subject of our society. Drug use? OK with that. Infidelity? Sure. Everybody's doing it. Out of wedlock births? That's the hottest Hollywood trend. But being stuck with the term racist is practically a societal death sentence. One automatically becomes a persona non grata of his former social circle.

So go ahead. Have an affair. Have one hundred. Nowadays nobody will look disparagingly at you anymore for that moral failure. Can it even be labeled a moral failure if nobody considers it immoral? But watch what you say about races other than your own. This will truly put the fear of God into the very fiber of your being.

SCA 5 is defeated. Why are Asian Americans still voting Democratic?

SCA5 has gone down in defeat. The California Senate's proposed constitutional amendment to bring back affirmative action for admissions to public colleges in the state was opposed by thousands of Asian Americans who believed their children's advancement into higher education was going to be impaired by the proposal. Over 112,000 people signed a Change.org petition urging the California Senate to remove the proposal from November's ballot.

After hearing so many anguished voices from their constituents, three Asian American democratic state senators have withdrawn their support from the bill. Since the amendment requires a two-thirds majority for it to pass the chamber and every Republican state senator opposed it, the Senate no longer had the numbers to pass the bill onward. Instead a task force will now be formed to study how to improve access to higher education for minorities.

This again raises the troubling question of why so many AA's vote Democratic in elections? They were the largest supporters of President Obama's reelection two years ago, greater than even Latinos. Democrats will always place the priorities of African Americans and Latinos ahead of Asian Americans because of sheer numbers. They are a much bigger voting bloc and thus will always have a greater say in how Democrats form their priorities. Their policies of income redistribution and tight government regulations of commerce are the antipathy of most AA's core beliefs.

Perhaps this episode will wake up all those Asian American college students and young adults who voted for Democrats last time. Though it's fun to vote for a young hip president who espouses color blind rhetoric and environmental nirvana, ultimately elections do matter. Though many look down on the Republicans' image as the party of the 1%, isn't that ultimately the goal for most of us? Voting Democrat will only get you higher taxes and decrease your children's chances of getting into a good college.

By the way, no thanks to California Democratic State Senators Leland Yee, Ted Lieu, and Carol Liu for changing their minds about SCA 5. Their change of hearts shows how out of touch they are with their constituents and heritage. These politicians display their true colors by pandering to the Latino and African American voters for their upcoming elections while ignoring those who voted for them in the first place out of ethnic pride. For shame senators.

Proof That Michael Dunn Is A Racist Murderer

Michael Dunn, the white computer programmer from Florida, successfully evaded a first degree murder conviction in his killing of black teenager Jordan Davis. Mr. Davis was sitting in his van on November 23, 2012 with a bunch of his friends at a convenience store parking lot, playing his music very loudly. Mr. Dunn, who was parked next to him, complained about the loud noise and asked the teens to turn down the music.

When Jordan and his friends would not comply with his request, he pulled a gun from his glove compartment and fired ten shots into the van, even getting out of his car and getting down into a shooting position. He claimed that he saw the barrel of a rifle being pointed out of the van and shot in self defense. The teens denied having any weapons inside and the police never found any.

I say his defense is simply legal obfuscation. Mr. Dunn is just a racist murderer looking for any excuse to shoot black people. You want proof? Take a look at the Chase Freedom credit card commercial above. Here is a pretty white woman pounding out her car stereo loud enough to make the windows rattle. Then she gets out of the car and starts dancing around. Now I ask you, would Mr. Dunn feel threatened by this woman playing her music so loudly? Would he feel threatened by her when she gets out of the car to do who knows what, possibly causing him great bodily harm? Or would he just see a pretty young white girl having fun and maybe even get out of his car and start dancing with her?

See what I mean? It's hard to believe his alibi of self defense. Just because it's a black male teenager playing loud music this white man decided to pull out his gun. But if it was a pretty white female doing the exact same thing it is considered cute and entertaining. Sounds like racism to me.

BMW's Diesel Commercial. Asian Archie Bunker In The Room.

I first noticed this BMW commercial run on the Superbowl a few weeks ago. Something about it immediately struck me as being uncomfortable and racist. Unfortunately it did not go away and is now in heavy rotation on the networks. In it, a young Caucasian guy approaches the Asian patriarch at family gathering. He nervously walks up to him and says he has something he needs to announce. The Asian father anxiously looks over at his daughter and we all know what he is thinking. The white guy then says he just bought a diesel. The father then turns around and looks at the BMW and lets out a huge sigh of relief.

This commercial feels all wrong to me. First of all, the father reminds me of the seminal TV character Archie Bunker from All In The Family. He was the bigot that drove his daughter and son in law crazy with his racist rants and attitudes, particularly when it came to interracial dating and marriage. His outrageousness helped open the discussion in America on race and people's bigotry. That has led to today's more open position about interracial couples. It is now so widespread that people think nothing of seeing an interracial couple on TV or living next door. Or if they did object to it, it is considered taboo and backwards to publicly disagree with the relationship.

Yet the ad agency for BMW thought it was acceptable to show an Asian bigot on TV disapproving of a potential white son in law. They would never dare use this concept with a black suitor and white father, or vice versa. It would bring howls of protest about prejudice in the media and BMW would be shamed back into the racist little bunker of their headquarters in Bavaria. But let's put an Asian father in there and everything is okay because we all know Asian parents hate to have their children date outside their race.

Something else that isn't right about the commercial is that it perpetuates the stereotypical white guy/Asian girl relationship. The girl, Jenny, stands by meekly, never saying a word, as she looks lovingly at her white boyfriend as he is talking to her father. Why isn't it ever the Asian boyfriend asking the white father for approval for marriage, or at least announcing he just bought a BMW? Frankly I see more young Asians drive BMW's here in Southern California than Caucasians, who seem to prefer American muscle cars like Mustangs and Camaros.

Again it is too easy to use Asians as comedy props in media (they are props because notice that none of the Asians in the room says a single English word; a sigh of relief doesn't count as spoken speech.) We are literally the last race where it is acceptable to make racist jokes about in public. I think BMW has just lost me as a potential customer.

Running While Arab

The Boston Marathon bombings are horrendous reminders of the vulnerabilities our country still faces. It is all too easy for people with nefarious motives to cause tragedies both big and small. When the two bombs went off, people immediately flashed back to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. So naturally, who was the first suspect to be questioned by the FBI? A Saudi citizen, of course.

When the bombs went off, thousands of people began running away. One of them was a Saudi Arabian student here in Boston to study. Even though this would be considered a normal reaction by anybody, some witness thought his running seemed suspicious. He tackled the student and held him until law enforcement could collect him. The student himself was injured by the bombs and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The FBI continued questioning him in his hospital bed and even searched his apartment. They finally concluded that he is not a terrorist suspect.

It's sad that Americans are still so xenophobic that we suspect anybody who is not white as a criminal. After the Oklahoma City bombing, people immediately thought it too was caused by Middle East terrorists. I thought at the time that it would be extremely strange for international terrorists to travel all the way to Oklahoma City to cause mayhem. Surely there are better targets in more cosmopolitan cities. And of course the culprits turned out to be a couple of white dudes who decided they didn't like their government and bought a few hundred pounds of fertilizer to make a bomb.

So before we start hating on people of Middle Eastern descent, let's take a deep breath and just wait for further findings from the FBI. We don't need any more racist vigilantes blaming innocent Arab students and causing a black eye in our fraught relationship with the Mideast countries.

Ted And The Paranoia Of Reading Asian American Blogs

Asian American blogs are great. They are wonderful resources that I wish I had when I was growing up. Being raised in the Midwest, I had no clue about the events affecting AA's around the country. There was a distinct feeling of isolation, as if I was the only person going through this Asian American reality. Now there is a whole universe of websites and blogs posted by other AA's who I can relate to and gain insight into my own experience.

However be careful what you wish for. Blogs like Angry Asian Man publicize the wonderful achievements of AA's but they also frequently write about the ugly side of discrimination in America. Whether the discrimination is overt or intentional, this steady torrent of racist acts against AA's soon started making me paranoid. Did somebody just make a racist remark to me at work? Was I passed up for a promotion because I'm Asian? Did somebody just cut me off on the road because I'm not white? Or are all these feelings just in my head and I'm overthinking situations?

I recently saw the movie Ted. I loved that movie. I hadn't laughed so hard in the theater in a long time. There is a scene in the movie though that made me feel uncomfortable. During the party scene, Flash Gordon punches a hole in the apartment wall clear through to the adjacent apartment. Who is on the other side? An Asian dude holding a live duck. He starts screaming at the partiers in thick Chinglish claiming he was about to cook the duck for dinner. Mayhem ensues. Granted Seth MacFarlane's claim to fame is his offensive humor directed at all races, religions, and sexual orientation. See his TV show "Family Guy" for an example. But during "Ted" I couldn't help but laugh self-consciously and uncomfortably at the chaos on screen. Isn't this a little too racist for the 2010's. Would the audience laugh as hard if they showed a black person getting ready to eat fried chicken?

I used to laugh at Asian characters in other movies that are now considered racist. Remember the infamous Long Duk Dong in "Sixteen Candles"? The play on Asian sounding names as well as his foreignness are clearly there to get cheap laughs from a Western audience. Another famous Asian movie person was the Japanese guy Takashi in "Revenge of the Nerds." Again, his obvious foreign accent and cluelessness about Americans is played for laughs.

Funny I never felt funny about laughing at those characters, along with the audience, at that time. I never realized how racist movie parts can be hurtful. It was not until I watched "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story" that I first saw how racist Hollywood could be. Bruce was sitting in the theater with his white girlfriend watching "Breakfast at Tiffany" when one of the most racist movie roles ever put on screen appeared, Mickey Rooney's Mr. Yunioshi. With his pulled back eyelids, buck teeth, and thick accent, this was the equivalent of wearing blackface in its horrible depiction of another race. While the white movegoers laughed, Bruce Lee sat cold silent. His girlfriend was laughing too until she looked over at him and realized how terrible this Mr. Yunioshi made somebody feel about themselves. That's the first time I can remember understanding racism in popular media.

Now with Asian American blogs documenting racism all over the place, I feel like I'm always on the lookout for racism. Is it better that we are now more sensitive about hurting the sensibilities of other races? Yes. Does it make my life better knowing that racism is all around us and otherwise intelligent people still make racist acts, whether intentional or not? No. I just get inflamed over something that sometimes maybe I should just forget instead of allowing it to mentally fester in my head for hours or days afterwards. Can't somebody write happy Asian blogs?
